Red: The Source
Texas, before the Civil War. A girl, a pendant her father forged from scrap, and the voice that rises when the men come through the door.
Mchll Renee writes gothic literary fiction rooted in the American South, the Black feminine inheritance, and the long unfinished conversation between beauty and violence. Her work is the origin arm of the Red universe — the adult literary series that holds the hunger, the pendant, the mother and father behind the girl who survived.
She founded The Ruin House in 2026 as the press she could not find. A house for authors whose voices refuse to be softened for market; a house for stories that function as art, archive, and education at once.
She lives and writes in Houston, Texas. She is a mother, a musician, and a keeper of archives — and the sole operator of Beautiful Disaster Records, the label she founded to hold her musical work and the work of sixteen other artist personas she writes and produces.
Her debut novel, Red: The Source, opens the adult arm of the Red universe. More is in progress.
